The Coachella Valley Community Trails Alliance (CVCTA) is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to marshal private and public resources for the development of urban trails.
PLANNING AN OFF-ROAD URBAN TRAIL SYSTEM
The Community Trails Alliance envisions a regional trail system that will connect the entire Coachella Valley. Many communities throughout the country provide off-road corridors for recreation and non-motorized transportation. Examples in California include Irvine, Sacramento and Davis. Boulder, Colorado and Tucson, Arizona are also recognized for their outstanding urban trail systems. Residents of the Coachella Valley have been discussing a Whitewater Channel Trail for decades. Now the CVCTA is taking action. The Whitewater Channel and the Coachella Canal will serve as the backbones for an extensive linear parkway system. The trails network will link Palm Springs to the Salton Sea and all the communities in between. It will include connections to The College of the Desert current and proposed campuses, the Salton Sea State Recreation Area, Lake Cahuilla, on-road cycling routes, parks, hiking and equestrian trailheads, schools and entertainment districts. Parks adjacent to the trails will provide parking and serve as trailheads.
